DULUTH -- Five people will be displaced after lightning caused a house fire Wednesday in the 4600 block of Fairway View Court in Duluth, officials said.
An occupant reported hearing an explosion about 4:50 p.m., and firefighters arrived to find smoke issuing from the roof of the single-story home. Three residents had escaped the home unharmed, said Fire Department spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden.
The fire was declared under control at 5:16 p.m. No injuries were reported. It caused moderate damage to the attic and minor damage to contents, Rhoden said.
"The fire appears to have been caused by a lightning strike which spread from the back outside corner of the home," he said.
A total of five residents -- four adults and a child -- will be displaced. No Red Cross assistance was necessary, Rhoden said.
