LAWRENCEVILLE -- As part of the transition for the new city government in Peachtree Corners, commissioners extended a moratorium on land use issues for another week.

The moratorium, which applies to zoning applications and building permits, was set to expire Wednesday. But with a vote Tuesday, the period was extended until July 25.

While the new city, which became official July 1 in the northwest corner of the county, is expected to take over the decision-making on planning and zoning issues, Gwinnett County Attorney Van Stephens said an intergovernmental agreement signed by both governments will mean county staff will evaluate applications and issue development permits for the next 18 months. The Peachtree Corners City Council will make decisions on zonings.

Stephens said the city-imposed moratorium lasts through the end of the month, and both sides are in talks about their roles in the process.
