Georgia Gwinnett College assistant baseball coach Christian Castorri
Georgia Gwinnett College announced the hiring of Christian Castorri as the program's new assistant baseball coach on Tuesday.
Castorri, a Thomasville native, will work primarily with the Grizzlies' pitchers and will guide their efforts in recruiting. The new GGC program, led by head coach Brad Stromdahl, plays its first regular-season games in 2013.
"Christian will be a tremendous asset to our team and program," Stromdahl said. "He is a talented young coach who is experienced at both the collegiate and professional levels. He has recruiting ties across the Southeast and the nation and has helped numerous players achieve their dreams of playing professionally.
"I'm excited for Christian to start working with our staff and fully believe his knowledge of the game, personality and work ethic will help us win championships."
Castorri was the Middle Georgia College pitching coach the past three seasons, a span that saw the Warriors go 117-53 with two conference and one region title. Five MGC players were drafted by Major League Baseball teams during his tenure.
After playing high school baseball at Thomas County Central, Castorri played at MGC and at Georgia College and State University. He also played three seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, reaching the Class AA Altoona Curve before retiring in 2009.
