Cops: Illegal gambling machines siezed in cafe

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Investigators recently seized illegal gambling machines and thousands of dollars at a cafe near Norcross, police said.

Gwinnett police served a search warrant Wednesday at Dai Nam Billiards and Cafe in the 1200 block of Rockbridge Road, where an undercover officer received cash as winnings from electronic gambling machines on 12 different occasions, police said.

Two men from Roswell were arrested at the business -- 68-year-old employee Truc Nguyen and the owner, 42-year-old Khanh Duong. Both have since posted bond.

According to a police report, investigators seized $5,000 from the business.

Georgia law states that gambling machines can be used only for amusement and must involve some level of skill. Machines can reward winners with free replays or merchandise contained within the machine, such as toys or gift certificates, so long as the value does not exceed $5, the law states.

Cash payouts from machines are forbidden.

Nguyen and Duong are charged with commercial gambling, a felony, along with misdemeanor keeping a gambling place and possession of gambling devices.

Duong, the owner, was also cited for selling alcohol without a license, jail records show.

Another reason to vote no for a casino full of gambling machines in Gwinnett. Crooks will be feeding more crooks off of this. There will be more crime, traffic, and other illegal crimes being committed there. Let them build in far away from here. Electronic gambling devices are easily "fixed" by the owners if they start paying off too much or too often.

Yes, an upscale gambling casino will attract more crime than is already in the area. Right....Have you been around the corner and seen the crime in that area lately?

And the 65+ crowd this place will attract really will bring in the bad element.

It is also illegal to post election signs inside the county right of ways. They don't enforce that law. Take a look at all the signs posted right on the corner at OldP'tree Rd and McGinnis Ferry and everywhere else in-between. Where are the police taking down those signs? They County only enforces the laws they want to enforce.
