GAINESVILLE — A Suwanee man was arrested Sunday after authorities said he attacked a park ranger near Lake Lanier.
Charlie Brown Jordan, 24, was arrested and charged with felony obstruction after the alleged altercation at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday. According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ranger was patrolling Burton Mill Park when he “observed a group of individuals with alcoholic beverages in a prohibited area.”
“While issuing a citation for the offense, the ranger was physically attacked by one of the subjects,” spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said.
The ranger was struck multiple times by Brown before he deployed pepper spray to end the assault, Wilbanks said.
Brown was taken to Hall County Jail, where a federal hold was placed for pending additional charges made by the Army Corps of Engineers.
The ranger was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, but was not seriously injured.

leave the people alone

Why should he leave these people alone. They were in a prohibited area with alcoholic beverages. He was just doing his job just like police officers do. There is no reason for this to have happened. People need to wise up and get a clue. No one is above the rules or law for that matter.

Jace, the former Suwanee council member who is now running for the Gwinnett BOC, tells us in his flyer that crime dropped 26% in Suwanee. I think he better reprint his own facts. Do we really want another politician on the Gwinnett BOC? They were all "conservative." That doesn't mean squat anymore.

What has this got to do with the story here?

I hope that every person in the group got a ticket for having alcohol.
This idiot should have the book thrown at him, The problems that are at Lake Lanier is this type of crowd and their actions.
Break the law and pay the fine.
I wish the park rangers would spend more time in the parks and ramp areas ticketing people for the possesion of alcohol. After all it states pocession is illegal not consumption. If they took it away from boaters at the ramp them it should yield fewer drunks on the lake and less accidents.

He better be glad he used pepper spay instead of lead spray.

Not everyone who goes to the lake is there to party. My family enjoys taking our boat out and swimming with the kids. With that said, I agree that there is an attitude of "I don't have to listen to the rules" or "Those rules don't apply to me." We were out a few weekends ago and wound up leaving early because of the behavior of some beach goers in Sunset Cove. Some things should not be seen by small children, especially in public.

I am surprised that the rangers are not armed. They deal with all kinds of situations and should be able to protect themselves. Until then, they are basically security guards and must rely on local law enforcement for the serious stuff.
Don 10 months ago
Most of them are? Not sure if this one was as article did not state that he was not armed. There are different classifications as to their duties and job classification.

GA DNR officers are armed and pretty well equipped however the Corp of Engineers park rangers are not armed nor equipped to handle the types of situations they are running into. I am very surprised something worse hasn't already happened to one of them. No disrespect intended, but the park rangers are closer to security guards than law enforcement. Until the Corp of Engineers gets serious about enforcement at Lanier, the bulk of the real law enforcement will have to fall to other law enforcement agencies in the area.

Guess old charlie brown thought he was a real tough guy attacking the ranger who was only doing his job. Pepper spray is usually all one needs to effectively disable a drunk :D
But what really has me confused is the comment from "kevin"......what does jace brooks running for gwinnett boc have to do with this story????

This guy belongs at the bottom of the lake. I am tired of stupid people.

This guy is an idiot. Right along with all the other idiots that think the lake is their place to party and act like a fool. If only the ranger would have had a tazer. I love those things.

I guess Charlie will have a lot of time to think about his foolish actions in the years to come. The guy is a moron!

I am glad there is still a lake to even go to. The last time I was there it was down 10 feet. Good job Ranger Rick, clean up the lake. Alcohol seems to be behind every tragedy up there lately.
