LAWRENCEVILLE -- The trial for a Lawrenceville man accused of an Oxycotin-motivated murder is scheduled to begin this week, almost two months after initial proceedings were delayed by his attorney's illness.

Steven James Green is accused of fatally shooting 24-year-old Anthony Augustus at the Cedargate Apartments near downtown Lawrenceville. According to authorities, Green and co-defendant Isaac Sandoval conspired to burglarize the apartment in October.

The men had hoped to find the prescription painkiller Oxycontin, which police believe the apartment's tenant, Shyrome Marshall, had previously purchased from Green. Marshall was allegedly assaulted by the suspects, but Augustus, who walked in behind him, fought them and was shot once in the waist.

He later died at Gwinnett Medical Center.

Green's trial was originally slated to begin on May 23, but the case was continued because his attorney, Macklyn Smith, was sick.

The case has been rescheduled for this week in front of Superior Court Judge William Ray.
