Two injured children not wearing seatbelts during 316 wreck

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Lawrenceville woman has been cited after allegedly causing the Tuesday accident that sent two young children -- riding in her car and not wearing seatbelts -- to the hospital.

Angela Gamboa, 32, of Lawrenceville was ticketed following the three-vehicle crash on Ga. Highway 316 near Sugarloaf Parkway, which gummed up traffic and caused multiple subsequent accidents at about 4 p.m. Tuesday. Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said Wednesday that Gamboa rear-ended a stopped vehicle, causing that car to hit a third vehicle.

Initial reports varied, but Smith said that two children -- a 10-year-old boy and 11-year-old girl -- were airlifted to Atlanta-area hospitals following the crash. Both children were riding in Gamboa's car and were not wearing seatbelts, police said.

It was unclear Wednesday if the victims were Gamboa's children. Both sustained non-life threatening injuries. More specific updates were not available.

The driver of the first car struck and a 2-year-old female passenger, as well as Gamboa, were taken to the hospital via ambulance, Smith said.

Gamboa, whom police said was also not wearing a seatbelt, received citations for following too closely and multiple seatbelt violations, Smith said.
