Gwinnett inmate charged in shanking

BUFORD -- An inmate at Phillips State Prison in Buford faces additional felonies after repeatedly stabbing a convicted murderer in the head last month, according to records.

Gregory Haines, 21, was booked at the Gwinnett County Jail last week on an additional charge of aggravated assault. He's since been released back to the prison system, records show.

Haines was serving 20 years for kidnapping, armed robbery and burglary in a Baldwin County case from 2007.

According to an arrest warrant, Haines stabbed inmate Charles Davis numerous times in the head on June 27 with a homemade "shank" at the prison.

Davis has been incarcerated since 1989, following a conviction for murder and other crimes in Chatham County. He is serving a life sentence.

Davis' condition was unknown Wednesday. A Georgia Department of Corrections spokesperson did not respond to inquiries about the case this week.

Information on Davis' crimes was not available Wednesday.

In my view, this isn't even a newsworthy story. Who cares if these people kill one another? Davis is serving Life and Haines needs to join him so they can rot in prison together.

What a waste of humanity.

Almost right John Galt.

Only problem here is you and I are paying for them to stay, if they kill each other, the cost is pretty much over after we pay to bury them.

And a neck tattoo? Really? Going a bit cliche with the prisoner look, aren't we?

Why don't we put it in the paper when men are raped in prison? It seems that the state condones rape. Why is that we never hear about the crime of rape in our prisons?
This is the first time I have ever seen anything about a crime in prison in any newspaper. What's up?

I don't think anyone should judge either one of them you don't know the whole story..also with the tattoos that's his business if he wants to get tattoos and it's a Rose on his neck with his moms name...

Considering both are in prison, one would assume they've already been judged.
