BUFORD -- Law enforcement across North Georgia have partnered for a 70-mile memorial ride in August for two Buford boys killed in a Lake Lanier boating tragedy last month.
The Griffin and Jake Prince Classic Car and Motorcycle Ride will loop around the lake on Saturday, Aug. 11. All proceeds will be channeled to a memorial fund established for the boys following their deaths the night of June 18.
The ride begins at 11:15 a.m. at the Lumpkin County Courthouse. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and costs $40 per car or motorcycle.
Jake, 9, and Griffin, 13, were killed when a pontoon board they were aboard with their family was rammed by a fishing boat. It took swarms of searchers more than a week to find Griffin's submerged body; his brother was quickly retrieved. Authorities have charged 44-year-old Paul J. Bennett of Cumming with boating under the influence.
The ride is sponsored by the Sheriff's offices of Dawson, Forsyth, Hall and Lumpkin counties. Hamburger plates will be $10, and the Brian Jarrett Band will perform, organizers said.
