LAWRENCEVILLE -- An apartment fire in the 3400 block of Water Vistas Parkway in Lawrenceville displaced several families Sunday morning, officials said.
A resident of the Water Vistas Apartments reported smoke to 911 operators about 6:30 a.m. Firefighters found flames in second and third floor apartments, with fire extending to an attic space. Crews controlled the blaze in about a half an hour, with damage contained to four units, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge.
No injuries were reported. Rutledge said the Red Cross was assisting several families -- seven adults and nine children, total -- displaced by the fire.
"Management staff from the complex was also working with residents to find placement," Rutledge said.
The fire appears to have started in a vacant apartment on the second floor, though the exact cause is under investigation, Rutledge said.
