TIA public info session to be held July 16
The Suwanee City Hall will host a public information session on the Transportation Investment Act at 6 p.m. on July 16. City officials have said the session will be held in conjunction with Gwinnett County officials.
Junior golfers compete in local event
Suwanee junior golfers Alex Hudson and Hunter Hatsavongsa competed in last week’s Royal Lakes Junior Open, a Hurricane Junior Golf Tour event in Flowery Branch.
Hudson shot 90-86 and was third in the girls 15-18 age group, while Hatsavongsa, who shot 86-86, finished ninth in the boys 11-14 division.
North grad to be walk-on at Ga. Southern
Jeff Ward, a 2011 North Gwinnett grad, has earned a spot on this season’s Georgia Southern football roster after joining the program as a preferred walk-on in June 2011.
Ward, who also carried a 4.0 GPA this spring and made the president’s list, will join former North teammate Manrey Saint-Armour on the Eagles’ offensive line.
Moondance contest for 3-course meal

Vertical Horizon to perform at Town Center
An Aug. 11 concert at Town Center Park will be headlined by the band Vertical Horizon. The concert will start at 6 p.m., and Vertical Horizon is expected to play at about 8 p.m. The alternative rock band, which was formed at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 1991, is known for hits like “Everything You Want,” “Best I Ever Had” and “You’re a God” that were all released in 1999. The band’s newest album, “Burning the Days” is to be released in September.
Blimpie Fit Fest to be held Aug. 18
The sixth annual Skylar’s Run 5K and 10K Peachtree Qualifier will be one of the events at this years BLIMPIE Fit Fest on Aug. 18 at Town Center. Runners can also take the Blimpie Challenge and run both the 5K and 10K. There will also be a fun run and a special needs buddy run.
The BLIMPIE Fit Fest will also feature the BLIMPIE Fit Fest Expo, the Title IX Crossfit Challenge and the Bodyplex Zumba for special needs kids.
SculpTour exhibit podcast to be available soon
The new podcast that’s paired with the latest SculpTour exhibit is expected to be available soon for download on iTunes. The guided audio tour, with narration from Councilman Dick Goodman and city employee Annette Phelps, offers descriptions about that original sculptures that make up the outdoor exhibit. Displayed nearly year-round in and around downtown Suwanee, SculpTour is designed to be a public art encounter that serves as a quality of life enhancer, economic development tool, and community identifier.
