Daily Post earns seven GPA awards

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. -- The Gwinnett Daily Post was honored with seven awards in the Georgia Press Association 2012 Better Newspaper Contest, highlighted by staff writer Josh Green's first-place prize for investigative reporting. The awards were given out Saturday during a banquet to culminate the Southeastern Press Convention.

Green was honored for his work on "The Meth Effect," a four-part series chronicling the infiltration of drug cartels in Gwinnett and their impact on the area. He also won third-place awards for feature writing and hard news writing.

Staff writer Frank Reddy placed second for his education coverage while Jason Braverman, digital production editor, placed second in the category of best sports feature photograph.

Sports Editor Will Hammock placed third for best sports column and the Daily Post sports section placed second for best sports section or pages.

The Daily Post competes in Division A against the state's largest newspapers. This year the GPA partnered with the press associations from Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi for a three-day convention held at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort.
