SUWANEE -- Kids who want to see Ariel live and in person will have a chance later this month at Town Center Park.
More than 75 cast and crew, many middle school and high school will put on a performance of "Little Mermaid Jr." on July 27 and 28 at Town Center Park. The event is free, but donations are encouraged as it serves as the annual fundraiser for Suwanee Performing Arts.
The production is adapted from the 2008 Disney Broadway production, and will have hit songs such as "Part of Your World," "She's in Love" and "Under the Sea."
Ariel will be played by Erin Caruso, King Triton by Jonathan McCravy, Ursula by Rachel Wagner and Justin Hermosilla will be Prince Eric.
The plot follows Ariel as she yearns to leave her ocean home, but must first defy her father, make a deal with an evil sea witch and then convince Prince Eric she's the girl with the enchanting voice.
The SPA is a nonprofit community arts organization that hopes to develop a passion for the performing arts in the community.
Patty Etherton, SPA founder and creative director, said attendees will quickly sing along to the familiar tunes.
"Mermaid is colorful, fun and so many people are familiar with the show that attendees will be able to sing along making the experience even more memorable," Etherton said in a press release.
Etherton and co-founder Beneta Bock Davis also wrote Filligan's Island, a one-act play based on the television series Gilligan's Island, which will open the event at 7 p.m. each night.
An "Island Market," which will have vendors and activities akin to a cruise ship port will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. before each show.
There's also a meet-and-greet with Ariel and her friends that begins the festivities each day at 10:30 am in Town Center Park. Tickets are required to be purchased in advance for the event and are $25 per child. To purchase tickets, call the SPA at 770-821-7654.
