LAWRENCEVILLE -- Officials believe fireworks are to blame for an early morning business fire Thursday in Lawrenceville.
World Finance and Las Canas restaurant, located at 1956 Duluth Highway near Discover Mills mall, were both affected by the blaze. Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the incident scene at about 4:40 a.m. after a call from a passerby, finding smoke and fire on the roof of World Finance.
Spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden said fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze. World Finance's roof sustained moderate damage, while neighboring Las Canas suffered minor smoke damage.
"The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and ignition was from illegal fireworks that landed on the roof that were shot from the parking lot adjacent to the business," Rhoden said.
