You need auto insurance if you desire to drive on public roads. This is a voluntary contract you enter with the state, that you will use their roads, but you must be covered with some form of insurance. You also ostensibly follow speed limit rules, you signal your turns, you drive on the proper side of the road, and you operate street-legal vehicles. These are all necessities for your voluntary use of public roads. It is not an infringement on your freedom to require a seatbelt be worn. And this is coming from a staunch libertarian. Wear your seatbelt. It's safer, and we could all stand to be a bit safer on the roads. Especially considering there will be some idiot somewhere who thinks the law doesn't apply to him or her.
