DACULA -- Following the required three public hearings before taking action, Dacula council members adopted a 2012-2013 millage rate of 5.703 Thursday evening. The previous year's rate was 5.128. Property owners whose property values have remained the same as in 2011 may realize a slight increase in taxes; those whose property values have decreased will pay less in taxes under the new rate.
Q&A sessions for T-SPLOST scheduled
Jimmy Wilbanks announced Thursday that two public information question-and-answer sessions have been scheduled regarding the Transportation Investment Act, or T-SPLOST, that will appear on voter ballots on July 31.
"These sessions are educational in nature, not an attempt to tell (voters) how to vote," said Wilbanks. Participants can drop in at City Hall between 2 and 4 p.m., and between 5 and 7 p.m. on July 19.
Annexation process under way
The legal process required to approve a requested annexation of undeveloped land at or near 2132 Stanley Road has begun, according to Dacula city attorney Dennis Still. The owner and applicant, Walton Georgia, LLC., has an eye on developing the land for Planned Mixed Use Development (PMUD). Under that zoning designation, hotels, restaurants, and office and residential use are permitted.
