BUFORD -- If it's fireworks on the fourth you're after, the Mall of Georgia has got them.
Kicking off at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the Mall of Georgia's 10th annual Fabulous Fourth event features a full day of family-friendly activities including children's rides and inflatables, live music, food and beverage vendors and a massive fireworks display.
It's an event that Marketing Director Carol Cox said draws more than 125,000 people every year.
"It's a really good grassroots community activity," Cox said. "It's just an overall fun event. From the kids playing in the village fountain to the wide variety of games and prizes."
She said that people are welcome to show up anytime and "stake their grounds" for the fireworks show.
Other activities during the celebration include the Fabulous Fourth Kids Zone, which opens at 2 p.m. Bands at the event are the Vintage Boogie Band, Norwood and The Woody's.
American flags will be for sale for $1 in support of Simon Youth Foundation. In addition, drawings will be held for various prizes at the Village Amphitheater stage at the top of each hour beginning at 3 p.m.
The fireworks display will launch from the Nordstrom Overflow lot. Attendees will not be permitted to park or sit in sections of the Nordstrom parking lot.
It is recommended that families park in the Dillard's parking lot. Cox said the best view of the fireworks show is near the Village Amphitheater in front of PF Changs.
As part of the Movies Under the Stars series, those in attendance may also view "Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows" following the fireworks show, which begins around dusk.
