SUGAR HILL -- Gwinnett County police are asking for help identifying the badly burned remains of two people killed early Tuesday in a Sugar Hill car crash.
Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said the two victims were traveling north at the 5300 block of Sycamore Road when the driver of the dark gray BMW 740i lost control, crossed the road and struck a tree at approximately 12:30 a.m. The car was fully engulfed in flames, and both driver and passenger were deceased by the time the fire was extinguished.
Ritter said investigators believe the duo was traveling to Lake Lanier following an alcoholics anonymous class. He declined to release details about how that was determined.
Due to the severity of the injuries and burns, investigators have had a difficult time identifying the victims. The driver has been "tentatively" identified and police are awaiting dental records for confirmation, Ritter said. As of Tuesday afternoon, police believed the passenger was a male.
Anyone with information regarding the accident or the identities of the victims is asked to call the Gwinnett County police accident investigation unit at 678-442-5626.
