Weir falls short of finals in 50 freestyle

OMAHA, Neb. — Brookwood grad Amanda Weir fell just short of reaching the 50-meter freestyle finals Sunday evening in the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials.

Weir had the 10th-best time of the 16-swimmer semifinals at 25.32 seconds and only the top eight swimmers make the finals. The SwimAtlanta product was just behind the eight-place time of 25.27 seconds.

Weir still will represent the U.S. on her second Olympic team after placing fifth in the 100 free, which sends her as a relay swimmer/alternate. She won two silver medals in relays during her first Olympic appearance in 2004.
