MIAMI — Miami police have released the names of two Lawrenceville residents who were struck and killed by a van on Saturday as they walked on a sidewalk near the Miami Marlins baseball stadium.
Miami Detective William Moreno said on Monday afternoon that Esther Terrero De Diaz, 59, Franklin Diaz, 14, both of Lawrenceville, and Adriana Diaz, 13, of the Dominican Republic were killed when they were hit by a Dodge Caravan.
The driver, Raul Arias, 67, of Miami, was driving eastbound, when the van struck the victims, who were walking westbound, leaving the baseball game, at about 7:30 p.m.
Arias was also killed in the crash.
Magdeline Diaz, 10, of Lawrenceville was listed in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where all of the victims were transported by Miami Fire Rescue, Moreno said.
The incident at Northwest 17th and 18th Avenue on Northwest 7th Street in Miami involved six pedestrians, Moreno said.
“The driver and three of the four (victims) died shortly after arriving at the hospital.” Moreno said. “The other victim continues (to be) hospitalized and in extremely critical condition.”
