Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann, an all-star in his first six major league seasons, won't be on the team for a seventh straight year.
The Duluth grad finished fourth in the National League voting among catchers, well behind starter and top vote-getter Buster Posey of the Giants, and wasn't selected as the rosters were finalized on Sunday. The Cardinals' Yadier Molina and the Phillies' Carlos Ruiz were the other two NL catchers.
Atlanta had two selections for the July 10 game, including starting second baseman Dan Uggla, who will make his third all-star appearance. Closer Craig Kimbrel was chosen for his second straight all-star game.
Two of the five candidates for the NL's Final Vote, the last player voted in, are Braves — Chipper Jones and Michael Bourn. Both still have a chance to make the game.
McCann has a .226 batting average with nine home runs and 35 RBIs this season. Uggla isn't much better with a .235 average, 11 homers and 43 RBIs. Kimbrel has a 1.50 ERA, 23 saves and 50 strikeouts in 30 innings.
