LAWRENCEVILLE -- A citizens group will reconvene today, after abruptly ending its query into the future of the Gwinnett County Airport last month.
Commissioners and residents had asked the review group to go back to work, after the December split vote, where the majority of members said they had nothing left to discuss until officials engaged environmental and economic studies of the potential commercialization of Briscoe Field.
The group met for less than two months to investigate a controversial proposal to privatize the airport, which is now home to general aviation.
While a resolution passed by one vote said the county should not privatize the operation if it remains general aviation, leaders said they needed unbiased studies to determine whether the idea of scheduling passenger service made sense for the community.
Commissioners are currently in the process of seeking proposals from potential operators, with bids due next week.
