PREP ROUNDUP: Lanier girls upend No. 8 Oconee Co.

SUGAR HILL -- Amber Cesair of Lanier scored off an assist from Shelby Threlkeld with nine seconds left on Friday night to lift the Longhorns 49-47 over eighth-ranked Oconee County in Region 8-AAA girls basketball. Lanier improved to 10-12 overall and 4-4 in the region.

Threlkeld finished with a game-high 20 points, while logging six steals. Cesair finished with 12 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parkview 77, Berkmar 26

LILBURN -- Parkview received offensive support from 17 different players Friday night as the third-ranked Panthers rolled to a 77-26 win over Berkmar. The win extended Parkivew's unbeaten record to 22-0 overall and 13-0 in Region 8-AAAAA.

The top scorer for the Panthers was Genesis Perrymond with 18 points. Erika Joseph followed with 11 points, while Makenna Pouengue added 10 points. Point guard Marissa Mandeldove also stepped in with a strong defensive effort for Parkview.

South 44, Central 42, OT

SNELLVILLE -- South Gwinnett's Yvonna Dunkley scored with 15 seconds left in regulation against Central Gwinnett to send the game into overtime, where South managed to pull away for a 44-42 win on Friday night.

Dunkley led all players with 20 points, while Arielle Harvey chipped in by hitting 3 of 4 free throws in overtime to help hold off the Black Knights. South improved to 13-8 overall and 8-4 in Region 8-AAAAA.

Central (10-11, 6-6) was led by 10 points from Taja Latimore.

Grayson 44, Loganville 42, OT

LOGANVILLE -- After falling to Loganville in overtime earlier this season, Grayson returned the favor as the Rams edged the Red Devils 44-42 in overtime on Friday night in a non-region game.

Top scorer for the Rams with 12 points was Sydnie Hixson, while Sadie Caudell chipped in with 10 points. Nicki Farley and Tiara James also helped in the win with strong defensive efforts.

Norcross 62, Mountain View 40

NORCROSS -- Norcross stayed unbeaten in Region 7-AAAAA at 10-0 on Friday night as the second-ranked Blue Devils posted a 62-40 win over Mountain View.

Leading scorer for Norcross (17-3 overall) was Shayla Cooper with 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Also adding to the win was Sierra Butler with 13 points and six rebounds.

Mill Creek 55, Duluth 51

DULUTH -- Mill Creek's Jasmine Carter scored 12 points Friday night in helping the Hawks edge Duluth 55-51 in Region 7-AAAAA action. Tamarr Williams also helped Mill Creek by adding 11 points.

Duluth (13-8, 4-6) had three players score in double figures in Tajai Pearson with 14, Joi Jones with 11 and Aerial Carruthers with 10.

Peachtree Ridge 57, Meadowcreek 46

NORCROSS -- Melissa Turvy of Peachtree Ridge hit 6 of 7 3-pointers and finished with 21 points Friday night to lead the Lions to a 57-46 over Meadowcreek for a Region 7-AAAAA win. The win improved the Lions to 12-9 overall and 4-6 in the region.

Peachtree Ridge also received help from Mahrie Bowman with 13 points and Jazmyn Johnson with nine points. Meadowcreek's Freddie Banks led all scorers with 25 points, while pulling down 10 rebounds.

North 38, Collins Hill 32

SUWANEE -- Fourth-ranked North Gwinnett won the battle of Suwanee on Friday night as the Bulldogs grinded out a 38-32 win over Collins Hill. The win bumped North's record up to 14-2 overall and 9-1 in Region 7-AAAAA.

North was led by Jordan Hyatt and Peyton Whitted, who each finished with nine points and six rebounds.

Buford 75, Clarkston 12

BUFORD -- Buford had no trouble on Friday night as the fourth-ranked Wolves routed Clarkston 75-12 in a Region 6-AA game.

MacKenzie Darrah led Buford (14-6, 10-0) with 19 points, while Bree Horrocks followed up with 12 points. Kallie Case also chipped in with 10 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Norcross 71, Mountain View 32

NORCROSS -- Twelve different Norcross players scored Friday night as the Blue Devils cruised 71-32 over Mountain View in Region 7-AAAAA.

Three Norcross players hit for double digits in points, including Harold Givens with 17, Brandon Goodwin with 15 and Derrick Herbert with 10. Norcross upped its record to 13-7 overall and 9-1 in the region.

Mill Creek 63, Duluth 30

DULUTH -- Paul Evans of Mill Creek finished with 11 points and was one of nine Hawks to score as fifth-ranked Mill Creek ran past Duluth 63-30 in Region 7-AAAAA.

Trevon Shaw followed with 10 points for Mill Creek (17-3, 8-2), while Jalen Bracey, James Holder and Daniel Loudermilk chipped in with eight points each.

North 49, Collins Hill 42

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett picked up a Region 7-AAAAA win Friday night by beating Collins Hill 49-42. North upped its record to 13-8 overall and 8-2 in the region.

Chris Bolden led North in scoring with 15 points, while Kwesi Abakah was the Bulldogs' top rebounder with six.

South 67, Central 54

SNELLVILLE -- South Gwinnett evened its Region 8-AAAAA record at 6-6 on Friday night with a 67-54 win over Central Gwinnett.

Simeon Dennis led the way for South with 30 points and 10 rebounds, while Kyle Wright followed with 12 points. Brandon Williams chipped in with 10 points, while South's leading rebounder was Jacari Smith with 15.

Brian Egejuru was the top scorer for Central with 18 points.

The Black Knights also received 15 points from Eman Westmoreland and 12 points from Slim Delbridge.

Berkmar 79, Parkview 42

LILBURN -- Tyler Rogers logged 13 points and eight rebounds and Tim Rowe added 12 points and seven boards as Berkmar topped Parkview 79-42 on Friday night in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Berkmar (14-6, 12-1) started the night by honoring Yonel Brown and Brandon Thompson, who each surpassed the 1,000-point mark in scoring for their career. Brown helped in the win with nine points, while Thompson scored 11. C.J. Foster also had a solid game with nine points.

Parkview was led by 12 points from Andre Chatfield.

Apalachee 35, Flowery Branch 26

WINDER -- Points were at a premium Friday night as Apalachee scratched its way to a 35-26 win over Flowery Branch.

Leading Apalachee in scoring was Johan German with nine points. Also helping was Cameron Blakley with eight points, six rebounds and four blocks, along with Jermaine Smith's eight points. Apalachee improved to 6-13 overall and 3-3 in subregion 8-AAAA North.

Lanier 50, Oconee Co. 38

SUGAR HILL -- Lanier logged its first home win in Region 8-AAA on Friday with a 50-38 topping of Oconee County. Lanier moved its record to 12-10 overall and 4-5 in the region.

Austin Wood led Lanier with 12 points, while M.J. Bryant and J.D. Davis each contributed nine points.

Buford 78, Clarkston 52

BUFORD -- Sixth-ranked Buford improved to 15-5 overall and 9-1 in Region 6-AA Friday night as the Wolves topped Clarkston 78-52.

Leading Buford was T.J. Shipes with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while A.J. Davis added 13 points and 11 boards. Isaiah Williams and Colby Durden also helped with nine points each.

Commerce 47, Hebron 29

COMMERCE -- Commerce defeated Hebron 47-29 Friday night in a Region 8-A contest.

The loss dropped Hebron to 8-12 overall and 7-3 in the region.
