Funeral arrangements announced for Atlanta officer

ATLANTA -- Funeral arrangements have been announced for an Atlanta police officer killed by a motorist.

Police officials said a viewing for Senior Police Officer Gail D. Thomas is set for Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Murray Brothers Funeral Home in Atlanta. The funeral is scheduled for Monday at Elizabeth Baptist Church.

Authorities said the 46-year-old officer died Tuesday night after she was struck by a car while helping investigate a wreck on an interstate ramp. Police have charged 22-year-old Chasity Nicole Jones with first-degree homicide by vehicle, drunken driving and other failure to yield to a person directing traffic in connection with Thomas' death.

Jones is being held in the Fulton County jail without bond. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 9 in Fulton County Superior Court.
