SUWANEE -- The city of Suwanee is seeking sculptors and artists for its 2012 SculpTour, which is expected to be unveiled in May. A request for proposals has been issued and is available on the city's website.
The SculpTour is an outdoor exhibit of sculptures on loan from artists. It is designed to be a walkable, interactive public art encounter. The inaugural SculpTour, which concludes at the end of March, includes 15 sculptures in and around downtown Suwanee.
Selected artists receive a stipend, and the sculpture voted the "People's Choice" at the end of the exhibit will be purchased and added to Suwanee's permanent public art collection. The City of Suwanee is "committed to utilizing public art as an economic development tool to attract visitors, residents, and businesses to Suwanee; a means to enhance downtown Suwanee and citizens' quality of life; and a way to create a unique sense of identity for the community."
Library presents Duluth History in Words and Pictures
DULUTH -- Veteran writer and historic preservationist author S. Lorraine Norwood will present "Duluth History in Words and Pictures" at the Duluth branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library at 7 p.m. on Feb. 2.
Norwood will share a collection of images from Duluth residents, Georgia archives and the Gwinnett Historical Society to show how the community has changed over the years from an agricultural village of barely 600 to a busy community of the metro Atlanta area.

Kroger raises more than $208k to help 'can hunger'
ATLANTA -- After a six-week campaign, Kroger is thanking its customers and associates for participating in the 2011 Can Hunger campaign, which raised more than $208,400 to benefit the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
From Nov. 13-Dec. 24, Kroger customers supported the annual campaign by purchasing $1, $3 and $5 icons. Each icon benefitted Feeding America food banks and helped to provide local families in need with approximately 3.9 to 19.5 meals. The donations raised during the 2011 Can Hunger campaign support the food banks and communities in which they were raised.
