Severe weather expected in northern Ala., Ga.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Forecasters are warning residents of north Alabama and north and central Georgia to brace for severe weather.

Weather forecasts call for straight line winds, hail, lightning and possible tornadoes to rumble through the area late Sunday and early Monday.

The National Weather Service says the area with the highest risk for severe weather is northwest Alabama. The forecast calls for up to two inches of rain and winds of up to 70 mph.

Forecasters say the cause is a developing storm system over the southern Rockies that is moving into the Tennessee Valley on Sunday night, followed by a cold front moving out of the Plains and into Alabama early Monday. Prime time for the storms will be from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. EST.
