YOUTH ROUNDUP: Atlanta Fire United wins national title

Atlanta Fire United 98G won the North American Championship of the USL Super Y League on Dec. 6 in Tampa, Fla. to become the first girls team in club history to win a national title.

AFU defeated Rage SC from Philadelphia 9-0 in a one-sided championship game. Tournament Co-MVP Alexa Bahr led the scoring with three goals. Martina Juric, Julia Smith, Riley Pinion, Ambria Shutts, Stephanie Lee, and Haley Salvador added a goal each, tournament co-MVP Danielle Marcano added four assists.

AFU's dominating championship performance followed a gritty, physical 1-0 semifinal victory over Princeton S.C. in a game that wasn't decided until the final five minutes.

AFU scored 42 goals in its ECNL fall season and had 21 goals in the five consecutive victories that made up their championship run. The team only allowed two goals in the tournament.

The team is coached by Denny Jenkins.Chicks with Sticks wins Florida tourneyChicks with Sticks, a middle school lacrosse club team, won the Heatwave Tournament U15 North East Division in Florida. The team is made up of girls from sixth-through eighth-grade in the Mill Creek, Peachtree Ridge, North Gwinnett and Grayson youth lacrosse leagues.

The team also just competed in the Fall Classic Lax Fest in Cobb county where they were the U15 runner-up.

Team members for the Fall Lax Fest include Breanna Smith, Alana Crowe, Kai Adams, Zoe Foy, Meredith Matthews, Mackenzie Micheletti, Dallas Thomas, Ashley Murphy, Jenna Williams, Delaney Woods, Kathryn Padova, Lindsay Blanchard, Elizabeth Blumthal and Kenzie Payne.
