PREP ROUNDUP: Grayson boys sink Brookwood with last second free throw

SNELLVILLE -- Grayson's Ryan Carter connected on a free throw with no time on the clock to lift the Rams past Brookwood 58-57 on Friday night in a Region 8-AAAAA battle.

Carter finished with 19 points, while teammate Derick Pope added 18 points.

Brookwood's Malcolm Hannah tied the game with five seconds left with a 3-pointer and was fouled, giving him the chance to put Brookwood ahead by converting a four-point play. Hannah's free throw was missed, allowing Grayson to take possession on a play that eventually sent Carter to the line for the game-winning free throw.

Hannah led all scorers with 24 points, while adding six assists. Austin Lewis also had 10 points and five rebounds for the Broncos, while Bilal Abdullah finished with eight points and seven rebounds.


Mill Creek 65, Mountain View 23

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek turned up the defense on Friday night as the Hawks downed Mountain View 65-23 in Region 7-AAAAA action.

Mill Creek (15-3, 6-2) also had a good night on offense with 10 different players scoring, led by 15 points from Trevon Shaw. Daniel Braschler added 11 points, while Corey Alkire came off the bench to chip in eight points.

Meadowcreek 64, Duluth 31

NORCROSS -- Meadowcreek's Daniel Mensah scored 14 points as the Mustangs coasted to a 64-31 win over Duluth in Region 7-AAAAA.

Anthony Hall and Don Smith each added 11 points for the Mustangs (4-9, 2-6).

Romelo Stryon was the high scorer for Duluth with nine points.

Shiloh 50, Dacula 38

SNELLVILLE -- Robert Carter of Shiloh posted a dobule-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds Friday night to guide the Generals to a 50-38 win over Dacula in Region 8-AAAAA action.

Shiloh (15-2, 10-1) also benefitted from eight points and four assists from Jordan Gaither.

Dacula's high scorers were Bryson Burlong with 10 points and Anthony Morse with nine points.

Apalachee 50, Clarke Central 48

WINDER -- Cameron Blakley's offensive rebound and putback with 28 seconds left to play on Friday night was enough to give Apalachee a 50-48 win over Clarke Central.

Blakley finished with 15 points, including eight in the fourth quarter, as Apalachee improved to 5-12 overall and 2-3 in subregion 8-AAAA North.

Rakim Peters also helped Apalachee with 12 points, getting nine of those in the third.

GAC 60, Blessed Trinity 45

NORCROSS -- Collin Swinton and Cole Hobbs each scored 17 points Friday night in Greater Atlanta Christian's 60-45 win over Blessed Trinity.

Isaiah Wilkins also helped in the win with 12 points.

Hebron 62, Towns Co. 40

HIAWASSEE -- Hebron improved to 8-11 overall and 7-2 in Region 8-A on Friday as the Lions defeated Towns County 62-40.

Ryan Thomas led Hebron with 15 points, while Tyler Matthews followed with 14 points.

Providence 62, Pinecrest 52

CUMMING -- Three Providence players scored in double figures, led by 17 from Charlie Scott, as the Stars knocked off Pincecrest Academy 62-52 on Friday night.

Kareem Adekunle added 13 points, while Nate Bucher finished with 11 points.


Brookwood 51, Grayson 33

SNELLVILLE -- Rebecca Walker of Brookwood logged a triple-double Friday night with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks in leading the Broncos 51-33 over Grayson in Region 8-AAAAA.

Seven other Broncos scored, including Courtney Gardner with 14 points, as Brookwood improved to 10-10 overall and 8-3 in the region.

Top scorers for Grayson were Sopuluchi Okoye with 10 points asnd Natasia Clark with eight.

Shiloh 33, Dacula 30

SNELLVILLE -- Bria Ratliff of Shiloh scored 12 points Friday night as the Generals held on to top Dacula 33-30 in a Region 8-AAAAA game.

Raquel Cranston also helped in the win with nine points, while Kaylen Ward chipped in with seven points. Shloh improved to 4-15 overall and 2-9 in the region.

Dacula was led by 11 points and 13 rebounds from Joni Weatherspoon and seven points and 10 boards from April Green.

Duluth 69, Meadowcreek 39

NORCROSS -- Tajmah Muhammad of Duluth led all players with 26 points Friday night as the Wildcats cruised to a 69-39 win over Meadowcreek in Region 7-AAAAA.

Katie Powell also had 13 points for Duluth. The win boosted Duluth to 13-6 overall and 4-4 in the region. Angel Alexander led Meadowcreek with 16 points.

Mill Creek 55, Mountain View 38

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek received a strong game from India Dillard with 11 points and 19 rebounds on Friday as the Hawks pulled away from Mountain View for 55-38 win in Region 7-AAAAA.

Jasmine Carter led Mill Creek (13-6, 5-3) with 13 points and four rebounds, while Nadiya Miller added 12 points and six boards.

North 62, Peachtree Ridge 40

SUWANEE -- Four North Gwinnett players hit the scoring column in double digits Friday night as the Bulldogs posted a 62-40 win over Peachtree Ridge in Region 7-AAAAA.

Lexie Brown led North (14-2, 7-1) with 15 points and 13 assists, while Peyton Whitted scored 15. Adding to the offense for North was Alyssa Munlyn with 12 points and Jordan Hyatt with 10 points.

Mahrie Bowman of Peachtree Ridge led all scorers with 16 points.

Woodward Academy 59, Archer 56

FAYETTEVILLE -- Woodward Academy edged Archer 59-56 Friday night in the fourth annual Girls' Night Out Showcase at Starr's Mill High School.

Madison Newby of Archer led all players in scoring with 20 points, while adding six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Cii Cii Marseille added 11 rebounds and 10 points for the Tigers (13-6), while Kayla Rogers scored 11 points.

Woodward (11-6) was led by 19 points from Tiana Grissom.

GAC 66, Blessed Trinity 36

NORCROSS -- Brianna Cummings led all players with 16 points Friday night in helping Greater Atlanta Christian take care of Blessed Trinity 66-36.

GAC (15-5, 3-2) also received 13 points from CiCi Buford and 12 points from Cosette Mahre.

Buford 78, Westminster 22

BUFORD -- Buford had a strong game shooting with 10 3-pointers Friday night as the Wolves crushed Westminster 78-22.

Kallie Case led Buford (11-6, 7-0) in scoring with 14 points, while Kaela Davis followed with 13. Buford also welcomed back Andraya Carter, who finished with eight points, to the lineup.

Providence 59, Pinecrest 20

CUMMING -- Providence junior Aubrey Gold poured in 30 points Friday night and logged her 500th career point as the Stars crushed Pinecrest Academy 59-20. The win was the first subregion 5B-A victory for Stars, who improved to 6-11 overall and 1-2 in the subregion.

Gold also finished with 12 rebounds and three blocks, while Jessie Kowalewicz pitched in with nine points and eight assists.
