Fire scorches vacant Norcross home

NORCROSS -- A Friday afternoon fire caused extensive damage to a vacant Norcross home, officials said.

Gwinnett County fire department spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly said emergency crews responded to the home on the 5300 block of Woodbin Drive at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, finding "smoke and flames showing from the roof." Firefighters searched inside for victims before bringing the blaze under control in less than 30 minutes, Eberly said.

The fire caused extensive damage to the home's attic and sent smoke throughout the structure. The home was unoccupied but had a significant "fire load" -- flammable objects like old furniture or trash -- inside.

No injuries were reported. The exact cause of the fire was undetermined and under investigation Friday night.
