Georgia State released its 2012 football schedule Thursday, with six home games planned at the Georgia Dome beginning with the season opener against South Carolina State. That first game will be Aug. 30 or 31, depending on the Atlanta Falcons' preseason schedule.
The Panthers' second game is Sept. 8 at Tennessee, followed by a Sept. 15 game against Texas-San Antonio at the Dome. The Sept. 22 home game against Richmond is the program's first ever Colonial Athletic Association game.
GSU's other home games are Oct. 6 vs. New Hampshire, Oct. 20 vs. Villanova (homecoming) and Nov. 3 vs. Old Dominion. The other road games are William & Mary (Sept. 29), Rhode Island (Oct. 13), James Madison (Oct. 27) and Maine (Nov. 10).
Four of the Panthers' opponents made the NCAA FCS playoffs last season.
"This is another significant milestone in the development of Georgia State football as we enter conference play for the first time and have the opportunity to play for a championship," GSU head coach Bill Curry said. "We know we have a great challenge ahead of us because we are entering the toughest FCS conference in the nation."
