Norcross junior Diamond DeShields and her USA Basketball Under-19 World Championship Team were honored Wednesday when the country's basketball governing body named the girls team as its USA Basketball Team of the Year. All of the American national teams are eligible for the award, which is voted on by USA Basketball's Board of Directors.
The under-19 squad went 8-1 last July in Chile to win the FIBA Under-19 World Championship, beating its opponents by an average of 16.6 points. DeShields was the youngest player on the team -- just 16 years old during the tournament.
