New Norcross police chief to host meet-and-greet

NORCROSS -- The public is invited to a meet-and-greet with new Norcross Police Chief Warren Summers Thursday evening.

Summers, a former Rockdale County sheriff's deputy and assistant district attorney, officially took the reins of Norcross' police force on Dec. 28 after former Chief Dallas Stidd retired. Summers will greet the public at the Norcross Welcome Center, located at 189 Lawrenceville Street, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Light refreshments will be served.

Summers began his career with the Stockbridge Police Department before moving on to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office in 1978. There he took on a number of roles, including executive officer and commander of the East Metro Drug Enforcement Team, a multi-jurisdictional task force.

After retiring from that job in 2006, he earned bachelor's and law degrees. In 2009 he became an assistant district attorney was most recently the drug prosecutor for the Alcovy Judicial Circuit's Newton County office.
