DULUTH -- Police have identified an Atlanta woman killed in an evening rush-hour crash Tuesday as Shannon Joiner, 26.
The two-vehicle accident happened about 5:40 p.m. on Interstate 85 south at the Ga. Highway 316 merge.
Joiner was driving a 2001 Honda Civic and attempting to merge from the highway ramp onto the interstate when she struck a stationary tractor-trailer, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith.
The tractor-trailer had run out of gas, and its driver was waiting for assistance in the gore alongside the interstate lanes. Joiner was attempting to cross over the gore when she struck the rear of the truck's trailer, Smith said.
There were no passengers in either vehicle, and no other injuries were reported, Smith said.
No charges or citations have been issued to the driver of the tractor trailer, he said.
An investigation continues.
