LILBURN -- A Lilburn man is facing felony charges after police believe a 2-year-old boy accidentally drank the date rape drug out of a water bottle he left sitting on coffee table.
Gwinnett County police said that Timothy James Waldrop, 33, was at a Lilburn home Saturday evening with a man who shares the residence with the family of the alleged victim. According to incident reports, the father of the 2-year-old found the boy holding a "water bottle with a clear liquid."
The boy said he didn't know what it was "because it was Tim's drink." Waldrop reportedly told the father that it was GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyric acid -- a synthetic drug commonly known as the "date rape" drug.
Waldrop was kicked out of the house.
"About 10 minutes after Tim left ... (the child) started acting weird then collapsed in the kitchen," according to a police report. A second child told the father that he had seen the 2-year-old drinking from the water bottle.
The 2-year-old was transported to Scottish Rite in Atlanta. Details about his condition were not available Tuesday evening.
Waldrop, later tracked down at a gas station, was arrested and charged with drug possession and cruelty to children. Gwinnett County Jail records show he is being held without bond.
