SWIMMING/DIVING ROUNDUP: North, Brookwood battle to split

North Gwinnett's boys swimming and diving team picked up a rare victory over Brookwood this past weekend, while the Bronco girls prevented a sweep with a dominating win over the Bulldogs.

North won the boys meet by a 182-127 margin and Brookwood won the girls division 209-97.

The Bulldogs, in addition to two boys relay wins, got a pair of victories from Jay Cathcart in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle. He won the 100 free in 49.83 seconds and the 200 free in 1:51.97. Teammate Robert Carroll won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.35.

Brookwood got boys victories from Aidan Sweeney (200 individual medley, 1:57.49 and 500 free, 4:47.88), Michael Trice (50 free, 22.50 and 100 backstroke, 55.34), Steven Jou (diving, 217.60 points) and Nick LaMontagne (100 breaststroke, 1:03.39).

The Broncos' first-place girls finishers were Rachel Muller (200 free, 1:58.95 and 500 free, 5:12.05), Kelsey Gouge (50 free, 24.65 and 100 breast, 1:07.74), Emma Weisel (diving, 210.55) and Morgan Duncan (100 free, 58.66 and 100 back, 1:06.34).

North got two victories from a single girls swimmer, Maggie Anderson in the 200 IM (2:17.72) and 100 fly (1:00.82).

Duluth wins two over GAC

Duluth's swimming and diving teams earned two victories over the weekend in a meet with Greater Atlanta Christian, winning 194-116 in the boys division and 218-80 in the girls division.

Brendan Eckard of Duluth won the boys diving competition at the meet, setting a new school six-dive record with 248.25 points.

The Wildcats' other first-place boys finishers were Austin Goelz (200 free, 1:52.23 and 500 free, 4:58.62), Joseph Portillo (200 IM, 2:08.45 and 100 fly, 57.85), Chase Adams (100 back, 1:00.98) and Brandon Neas (100 breast, 1:04.94).

Girls who won events for Duluth were Allison Chandler (200 free, 2:01.87 and 500 free, 5:29.79), Katie Neas (200 IM, 2:28.92 and 100 breast, 1:12.04), Rachel Rice (50 free, 26.41 and 100 free, 57.29), Kelsey Carniglia (diving, 244.65) and Sarah Miller (100 fly, 1:05.63 and 100 back, 1:12.74).

Peachtree Ridge girls win tri-meet

Peachtree Ridge's girls swimming and diving team scored 240 points this past weekend to win a tri-meet with Parkview (221) and Archer (167). Parkview won the boys meet with 306 points, Peachtree Ridge (225) was second and Archer (103) was third.

Peachtree Ridge got first-place girls finishes from Carrington BeVier (200 free, 1:58.71), Savannah Ruedt (200 IM, 2:18.58) and Christina Wang (100 back, 1:03.43). Drew Wescoat (100 free, 50.62) was the only Lions' winner in the boys meet.

Parkview's event winners were Adrian DeSilva (200 free, 1:54.29), Geoffrey Carter (200 IM, 2:00.94), Devyn Hughes (50 free, 22.28 and 100 fly, 53.21), Sean Piner (diving, 283.70), Tabitha Banks (diving, 231.20), Heana Park (100 fly, 1:04.33), Ricky Lehner (500 free, 4:58.36 and 100 breast, 1:00.08), Rory Martin (100 back, 54.60) and Julianne Kurke (100 breast, 1:06.62).

Archer got wins from Lydia Jones (50 free, 24.63 and 500 free, 5:07.69) and Lexi Smith (100 free, 53.49).

Collins Hill swims past Wesleyan

Collins Hill's swimming and diving teams swept Wesleyan this past weekend, winning 179.5-131.5 in boys and 180-134 in girls.

Wesleyan's Anthony McMurry provided a big highlight with his win in the 200 free in 1:40.22, which broke the Wolves' school record. He also won the 100 free in 46.00.

Collins Hill's event winners were Anna Burdette (200 free, 2:05.42), Cody Bekemeyer (200 IM, 2:01.63), Katie Bekemeyer (200 IM, 2:24.56), Jenn Rutledge (50 free, 25.40 and 100 free, 56.19), Jacob Miller (diving, 165.20), Altan Stalker (500 free, 5:28.92), Taylor Aguirre (100 breast, 1:02.32) and Mindy Ross (100 breast, 1:15.23).

Wesleyan's other first-place performers were Timothy Marsh (50 free, 22.65), Lauren Hall (diving, 295.70), Nick Salyers (100 fly, 53.41 and 100 back, 54.22), Camille Roy (100 fly, 1:04.69), Caroline White (500 free, 5:27.69) and Carrie Ciccotello (100 back, 1:04.23).

Collins Hill followed up the Wesleyan meet with 395-180 combined meet victory over Norcross.

In that meet, the Eagles' individual winners were Katie Bekemeyer (200 IM, 2:23.92), Mitchell Blanchard (50 free, 22.76), Rutledge (50 free, 25.16 and 100 free, 55.88), Spencer Coffee (diving, 93.50), Will Callander (100 free, 50.37), Bria Williams (500 free, 5:59.50), Cody Bekemeyer (100 back, 55.74), Aguirre (100 breast, 1:02.00) and Ross (100 breast, 1:13.57).
