MACON -- For the second year in a row, Greater Atlanta Christian drew state power Jefferson in the first round of the Class AA dual state wrestling tournament.
The Spartans lost to the eventual state champions in the first round, but battled back to take third at the state meet at the Macon Centreplex.
GAC avenged an early season defeat to Elbert County by beating the Blue Devils 34-25 in the consolation finals.
"We had to fight back just like we did last year," GAC coach Jeff Harsh said. "We knew we would get hit hard by Jefferson, but we battled back."
After the loss to Jefferson, GAC won its next five matches by beating Monticello (49-16), Spencer (48-21), Toombs County (59-15) and Calhoun (46-36) to reach the consolation finals against Elbert County.
Brandon Bradley's decision at 113 pounds turned the match for GAC as it went on to beat Elbert County.
"It wasn't easy for us to come back," Harsh said. "There was no easy wins."
