LOGANVILLE -- Judge Brad Brownlow administered oaths of office Thursday to newly elected councilmen Skip Baliles and Mike Jones, as well as re-elected councilman Dan Curry.
Jones served on Loganville's city council about 10 years ago and returns to service following an extended illness and recovery.
Loganville, Walton firefighters and EMTs honored
Five public safety personnel were honored publicly during Thursday's City Council meeting, the result of heroic efforts to save a cardiac arrest patient's life on Nov. 26, 2011. Nationally, between 16 and 24 percent of cardiac arrest patients survive such an event, according to Loganville Fire Chief Danny Roberts.
While the patient died about 5 days after being taken to Walton Regional Medical Center, the EMTs and firemen who initially responded to the distress call responded quickly and professionally, giving the patient the best possible chance at a positive outcome.
The men honored Thursday were: Battalion Chief Carl Morrow, Sgts. Stephen Wilson and Rex Wamer, Lts. Michael Moon and Kyle MacKenzie, and Walton County Paramedic Supervisor Dennis Carlock.
According to Loganville Fire Chief Danny Roberts, 60 percent of the Loganville fire department staff are EMT trained.
