Gwinnett's GOP is kicking off its 2012 election work with a visit from the congressman who called out Barack Obama from the floor of the U.S. House.
Joe Wilson, the South Carolina congressman who yelled "You lie" to Obama during a health care speech in 2009, will be at Thursday's rally, said the party's chairman Bruce LeVell.
The event will begin with the party's regular county committee meeting but will continue with the rally at 7:30 p.m. at 550 Trackside in Lawrenceville.
Joining the group will be local Congressmen Rob Woodall and Paul Broun and other state and local elected officials.
"This will be an event you won't want to miss," LeVell said in an email to the GOP.
Next month, the group will host state Rep. David Casas and Gwinnett Chamber VP Nick Masino during a breakfast rally at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
Nash in Georgia Trend
Less than a year into political office, Charlotte Nash's status as an influential leader has been set.
Nash was named to the 2012 Most Influential Georgians list by Georgia Trend magazine.
The Dacula woman was one of only two from Gwinnett who made the list, which was filled with congressmen and captains of industry.
In the entry, Georgia Trend writes that Gwinnett needed "a chief executive who could hit the ground running" after the resignation of Charles Bannister. "They found one," the entry reads. "It'll take all her skills to solve the county's financial challenges while rebuilding public trust."
