LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett Medical Center's Cindy Snyder, the hospital's manager of oncology services, recently received an advanced genetics accreditation, making her one of just two people in the state with the designation.

Snyder received the Advanced Practice Nurse in Genetics (APNG) credential, which requires 300 hours of genetic practicum experience as a clinical genetic nurse and presentation of four case studies. Snyder has worked at GMC for more than 25 years and is responsible for managing clinical and educational support programs for breast cancer patients, as well as providing hereditary risk assessments and education for patients at risk of hereditary cancer syndromes.

Only 47 nurses nationwide have received the APNG from the Genetic Nursing Credentialing Commission.

"Cindy has worked to make Gwinnett Medical Center's cancer care services second to none," said Carol Danielson, GMC's chief nursing officer.
