LAWRENCEVILLE -- A three-car collision Saturday night claimed the lives of Hope McKenzie, 17, and Austin Rogers, 19, both of Grayson.
Officials with the Gwinnett County Police Department responded at 10:10 p.m. Saturday to Web Gin House Road between Chadwick Park Drive and Arbor Hill Court in unincorporated Lawrenceville.
The wreck occurred when a 1997 Toyota Tercel driven by McKenzie crossed the center lane and sideswiped a 2004 Toyota Scion, according to Cpl. Edwin Ritter with the Gwinnett County Police Department. The Tercel then spun out of control and struck another vehicle, a Toyota Tundra.
A surviving passenger inside the Tercel, Mckennan Lockridge, 17, of Grayson, was transported in critical condition to Gwinnett Medical Center.
The Scion's driver, Sharianne Smith, 22, Grayson was treated for minor injuries, and was arrested on an outstanding warrant for unrelated charges. Passenger Kanisha Finlay, 21, of Lawrenceville was treated for minor injuries and released.
The Toyota Tundra's driver, Jeffery M. Watson, 51, Loganville, was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He was later charged with driving under the influence, but police said he was not a contributing cause to the accident and is not being charged for vehicluar homicide.
An arrest warrant for Watson was served at the hospital and Watson was ordered to turn himself in after being discharged. Gwinnett County jail records showed he had not been booked as of Tuesday afternoon.
Passenger Kathleen Watson, 49, Loganville, was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
