PREP ROUNDUP: Dacula rallies from 13 down to beat Central

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Dacula's boys basketball team dug itself a hole early, but apparently it wasn't too deep.

The Falcons rallied from a 13-point second-quarter deficit to beat Central Gwinnett 55-46 and move over .500 in Region 8-AAAAA on Saturday. Brandon Goodson had 14 points to lead Dacula (9-6, 4-3). Bryson Burlong added 13 points and eight rebounds.

K-Ci Maultsby and Darius Joell each had 13 points for the Black Knights.


Berkmar 76, Grayson 40

LILBURN -- Berkmar defeated Grayson 76-40 on Saturday. A.D. Rogers and Yonel Brown each scored 16 points for the Patriots (8-5, 6-1). Brandon Thompson chipped in with 14 points.

Archer 72, Mountain View 33

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Ten players scored for Archer as the Tigers beat Mountain View 72-33 on Saturday. Aubrey Overby led Archer with 18 points (10-5). Kahri Stevens and Tramique Anderson added 10 points each.

Ryan Gibbs had 17 points for the Bears, while Andre Joseph had 10 points.

Norcross 68, Collins Hill 41

SUWANEE -- Brandon Goodwin poured in 31 points as Norcross beat Collins Hill 68-41 on Saturday. Harold Givens added 12 points for the Blue Devils (7-6, 5-0).

Connor Iverson scored 11 for the Eagles.

Wesleyan 62, Pace Acad. 51

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan won its third straight to start Region 5-A play by beating Pace Academy 62-51 on Saturday. Will Clifton finished with 20 points for the Wolves (9-5, 3-0). Shane Smith added 17 points, while Takim Williams had 10 points.

GAC 77, Maynard Jackson 46

NORCROSS -- Four players scored in double figures for Greater Atlanta Christian in its 77-46 win over Maynard Jackson on Saturday. Cole Hobbs scored 18 points to lead the Spartans (11-4, 2-0). Colin Swinton added 14 points, while Robert Armstrong and Andrew Lewis each had 12 points.


Central 53, Dacula 46

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Nia Hardy scored 24 points to lead Central Gwinnett over Dacula 53-46 on Saturday. Hardy also had seven rebounds and four steals for the Black Knights (7-7, 5-2). Alex Frazier added eight points and six rebounds.

Joni Weatherspoon had 16 points for the Falcons.

Berkmar 49, Grayson 35

LILBURN -- Berkmar defeated Grayson 49-35 in a Region 8-AAAAA game Saturday. Nina Williams scored 14 points, while Amy Adame finished with 10 points for the Patriots (4-10, 2-4).

Sopuluchi Okoye led the Rams (2-11, 0-7) with 11 points and Sadie Caudell had eight points.

Archer 48, Mountain View 43

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Alesha Mann put in 17 points to help Archer hold off Mountain View 48-43 on Saturday. Madison Newby chipped in with 12 points, five assists and four steals for the Tigers (10-5). Kayla Rogers and Danicka Brown also had four steals each.

Kelsey Hutchins had a game-high 19 points for the Bears (9-5).

Peachtree Ridge 78, Roswell 63

SUWANEE -- Stephanie Amichia scored 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds in Peachtree Ridge's 78-63 win over Roswell on Saturday. Melissa Turvy added 18 points and eight assists for the Lions (7-6). Turvy was also 4-for-6 from behind the 3-point line as Peachtree Ridge shot 50 percent (6-for-12) as a team. Laurie Cruse finished with 15 points and six assists, while Taylor Auzenne had nine points and three assists.

West Hall 44, Lanier 41

SUGAR HILL -- West Hall hit a last-second 3-pointer to beat Lanier 44-41 on Saturday. Shelby Threlkeld had 16 points for the Longhorns (7-10, 1-3). Amber Cesiar added 10 points.

GAC 57, Maynard Jackson 9

NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian had no problem with Maynard Jackson in a 57-9 win Saturday. Cici Buford scored 16 points for the Spartans (11-4). Brianna Cummings finished with 12 points.

Wesleyan 49, Pace Acad. 21

NORCROSS -- On a day Wesleyan honored its inaugural GHSA team of 1997 and its first state championship team of 2002, the current Wolves rolled past Pace Academy 49-21 on Saturday at Yancey Gymnasium.

Taylor Blackmon scored a game-high 13 points, while Katie Frerking added nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots for Wesleyan (10-2).


Mountain View goes 2-0 at Mill Creek

HOSCHTON -- Mountain View took care of Mill Creek and Collins Hill's JV team on Saturday. The Bears (16-6) beat the Hawks 66-15 and the Eagles 48-16. The Collins Hill JV was playing in a varsity match because the No. 1 squad was at another tournament. Sterling Pyles (145 pounds), Octavian Jarda (182), Jamal Tull (195) and Tommy Coggins (285) all went 2-0 with two pins.

Meadowcreek wins second tournament of season

GREER S.C. -- Meadowcreek went up to South Carolina and went 5-0 to win its second tournament of the year Saturday. The Mustangs (21-8) captured first place in the Riverside Warrior Duals beating the host school in the championship 40-27. Malik Saunders (106 pounds), Robert Nguyen (113), Dante Bennett (120), Rene Deluna (126), O.G. Harden (170) and Ryan Moore (182) all went 5-0 in the tournament. Alex Steele (160) went 4-1 with four pins.
