PREP ROUNDUP: Fourth-quarter surge leads Hebron boys over Athens Academy

DACULA -- After scoring just 23 points over the first three quarters, Hebron's offense came alive in the fourth quarter to put in 24 points as the Lions rallied to top Athens Academy 47-42 Friday night in boys basketball action. The win moved Hebron to 4-10 overall and 3-1 in Region 8-A.

Tyler Matthews, who led Hebron with 22 points, scored 15 of those in the deciding fourth quarter. Tyler Skidgel also helped in the win with 11 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Berkmar 63, Archer 62

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A 3-point attempt by Archer at the buzzer just missed, allowing Berkmar to escape with a 63-62 win over the Tigers in a Region 8-AAAAA battle.

Berkmar (7-5, 5-1) had five players hit for double digits in scoring, led by 15 from Tim Rowe. Other offensive contributors were Brandon Thompson with 14, Tyler Rogers and A.D. Rogers each with 12 and Yonel Brown with 10.

Shiloh 70, Parkview 38

LILBURN -- Shiloh's Robert Carter was the game's top scorer with 26 points Friday night in leading the Generals 70-38 over Region 8-AAAAA opponent Parkview. The win moved Shiloh to 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the region.

Trayvon Reed chipped in with eight points for Shiloh, while Jordan Gaither added seven points. The top scorer for Parkview was Andre Chatfield with 17 points.

North 88, Mountain View 37

SUWANEE -- Four North Gwinnett players hit for double digits in points, led by 20 from Chris Bolden, as the Bulldogs routed Mountain View 88-37 Friday night in Region 7-AAAAA action.

Other scorers for North (8-6, 4-0) were Danny Crawford with 13, Mac Howard with 12 and Jordan Brown with 12.

Collins Hill 51, Meadowcreek 41

NORCROSS -- Collins Hill's defense came up strong in the second half by holding Meadowcreek to 15 points in the final two quarters as the Eagles logged their first Region 7-AAAAA win 51-41 over the Mustangs.

Connor Iverson poured in 28 points to lead Collins Hill (4-9, 1-3), while Devin Mitchell added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Apalachee 48, Winder-Barrow 46

WINDER -- Cameron Blakley's offensive rebound and putback at the buzzer lifted Apalachee 48-46 over county-rival Winder-Barrow on Friday night in a region 8-AAAA North battle.

Blakley finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and four blocks to lead Apalachee (4-8, 1-0), while Rakim Peters added 14 points.

Winder-Barrow was led by 15 points from Kendall Isler and 12 points from Toddric Barnes.

Lanier 54, Monroe Area 51

MONROE -- Lanier recorded its first Region 8-AAA win of the season on Friday night as the Longhorns held on to beat Monroe Area 54-51.

Jordan Davis hit five 3-pointers en route to a 21-point night for Lanier, while M.J. Bryant chipped in with 15 points and five assists.

GAC 67, Clarkston 43

CLARKSTON -- Collin Swinton scored 20 points and was one of three Greater Atlanta Christian players in double digits in the Spartans' 67-43 win over Clarkston. The win boosted GAC to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in Region 6-AA.

Cam Boyd added 12 points GAC, while Andrew Lewis finished with 11 points.

Buford 57, Decatur 41

DECATUR -- Kyle Kellam of Buford finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and four assists Friday night as the Wolves topped Decatur 57-41 in Region 6-AA.

Buford (10-3, 4-0) also received 14 points from Isaiah Williams, 13 points from T.J. Shipes and 10 points from Payton Wehunt.

Wesleyan 71, King's Ridge 35

NORCROSS -- Wesleyan's Will Clifton put in 23 points Friday night in leading the Wolves to a 71-35 rout over King's Ridge in a Region 5-A game.

Takim Williams added 11 points, while Charles Mack finished with 10 for Wesleyan (8-5, 2-0).

Providence 40, Fellowship 35

ROSWELL -- Providence improved to 9-6 overall and 3-0 in subregion 5B-A as the Stars held off Fellowship Christian 40-35 Friday night.

Dominique Cormier was the leading scorer for the Stars with 13 points, while Charlie Scott added 11 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parkview 68, Shiloh 32

LILBURN -- Third-ranked Parkview stayed unbeaten on Friday night with a 68-32 win over Shiloh in Region 8-AAAAA. Parkview's unblemished record improved to 14-0 overall and 7-0 in the region.

Genesis Perrymond scored 14 to lead the Panthers with Vicky Harris adding 13 points.

Archer 60, Berkmar 50

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Three Archer players scored in double figures, led by Morgan Jackson with 13 points, as the Tigers downed Berkmar 60-50 on Friday night in Region 8-AAAAA. Jackson also grabbed seven rebounds.

Madison Newby added 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds for Archer (9-5, 4-3), while Danicka Brown added 11 points, eight steals and five rebounds.

Berkmar's Amy Adame led the Patriots by hitting five 3-pointers for 15 points.

Collins Hill 55, Meadowcreek 47

NORCROSS -- Emily Buck scored 19 points with Jasmine Knight adding 12 more to guide Collins Hill 55-47 over Meadowcreek in Region 7-AAAAA.

Top scorer on the night was Freddie Banks of Meadowcreek, who scored 22 to go along with 13 rebounds. Jessica Ramirez also scored nine for the Mustangs (4-8, 1-2), while Courtney Fields finished with eight points.

North 71, Mountain View 28

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett ran its winning streak to 10 in a row Friday night by cruising 71-28 over Mountain View for a Region 7-AAAAA win.

Lexie Brown had 16 points and six assists to lead North (11-1, 4-0). Peyton Whitted added 11 points for North with Jordan Hyatt chipping in with seven points and seven rebounds.

Central 67, Grayson 43

LOGANVILLE -- Taja Latimore of Central Gwinnett led all scorers with 14 points on Friday as the Black Knights posted a 67-43 win over Grayson in Region 8-AAAAA. Latimore also played well on defense with four blocks.

Central (6-7, 4-2) was also helped by an 11-point, seven-rebound night from Nia Hardy and a solid all-around effort from Jackie Finnegan with eight rebounds, seven points and five assists. Central had 10 different players score, including Alex Frasier with nine points and Devonna Glover with eight points.

Grayson was led by eight points from Sadie Caudell and seven points from Sopuluchi Okoye.

Lanier 69, Monroe Area 41

MONROE -- Lanier picked up its first Region 8-AAA win Friday night with a solid 69-41 defeat of Monroe Area. The win was fueled when the Longhorns (7-9, 1-2) surged for 27 points in the third quarter.

Shelby Threlkeld scored 24 points to lead Lanier, while Melanie Galvez scored 12 and Amber Cecair added 10 points.

Buford 45, Decatur 41

DECATUR -- Buford picked up a big Region 6-AA win Friday night by edging Decatur 45-41. Buford trailed by six at the half and two points after three quarters before putting together a run in the fourth to secure the win.

Leading the Wolves (8-5, 4-0) was Kaela Davis with 16 points, Kristina Nelson with 11 points and Kallie Case with 10 points.

GAC 58, Clarkston 21

CLARKSTON -- CiCi Buford of Greater Atlanta Christian scored 14 points Friday night as the Spartans rolled to a 58-21 win over Clarkston.

Sydni Means followed with 11 points, while Meghan Mitchell added 10 points. GAC improved to 10-4.

Athens Academy 38, Hebron 30

DACULA -- Athens Academy upended Hebron 38-30 Friday night in a Region 8-A contest.

Athens Academy was led by 12 points from Carly Settles, while Hebron (9-7, 2-2) was led by nine points from Hannah Lentz.

WRESTLING

Lions sixth at tourney

Peachtree Ridge tied for sixth place at the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association's 41st annual holiday tournament in Ohio on Dec. 29-30.

The Lions had four wrestlers place, led by Tre Horton's championship at 152 pounds. Brandon Smith (145) and Nick Hoang (150) each took third and Mac Shiver (138) was seventh.
