North Gwinnett Athletic Hall of Fame induction set for Friday

The North Gwinnett High School Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome 14 new individuals and five new teams at an induction ceremony Friday during a home basketball doubleheader with Mountain View. The event will be held following the 6 p.m. varsity girls game and before the varsity boys game.

This year's class features three cross country runners in Rose Howell, Lauren Recchia and Laura Serres, as well as track and field athletes Roman Drankin and Josh Albey. Howell, Recchia and Serres will join their 2010 girls cross country team as inductees this year.

The 2011 state runner-up girls soccer team also will be honored, as will two of its players, new inductees Abbi Edwards and Abby Groth. The 2010 region championship football team also will be inducted with two of its players, Manrey Saint-Armour and C.J. Uzomah.

The other individuals in this year's class are Seth Bancroft (baseball), Alex McDavid (softball), Kate Thompson Neil (softball), Tommy Henry (baseball/basketball) and Larry Ziegler (administration).

The 2010 area champion volleyball team and the 2011 wrestling region runner-up also are slated for induction.

Congratulations to the 14 individuals and the 5 teams that will be inducted into the North Gwinnett High School Sports Hall Of Fame this Friday evening! I appreciated your dedication and contributions to the sport, the high school school and its surrounding neighborhoods! Thanks for the enjoyment in watching you participate in your particular sport.

OMG. How sad is this? I am still not over participation trophies, but now Hall of Fame ceremonies for little kids who never won anything.
