LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Gwinnett grand jury indicted two men this week in connection with a burglary that led to a fatal shooting in Lawrenceville three months ago.
Both Steven Green, 28, of Lawrenceville, and Isaac Sandoval, 22, of Gainesville, face seven total counts including murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and weapons possession during the commission of a crime, according to a bill of indictment released Thursday.
According to earlier testimony, Green and Sandoval were burglarizing a Lawrenceville apartment off Longleaf Drive the night of Oct. 2 in search of the prescription painkiller Oxycontin. The tenant, Shyrome Marshall, an acquaintance of Green's, came home with a friend and stumbled on the burglars, triggering a scuffle.
Marshall was pistol-whipped but managed to run away for help. His friend, Anthony Augustus, 24, was shot once in the abdomen and stumbled to a nearby apartment. He later died at Gwinnett Medical Center.
Police arrested Sandoval two days after Marshall led them to Green.
Police said Augustus was merely giving his friend a ride that night, and that no evidence implicated him as being involved in the drug trade.
Green and Sandoval remain at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
Green faces an additional count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in commission of a felony, stemming from a 2005 burglary in Gwinnett, records show.
