The Gwinnett Heat basketball team, an Adapted Sports program run by Gwinnett County Public Schools, opens its season Saturday with a pair of games in Bonaire. Both of the Heat's games are with the Houston County Sharks at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Gwinnett makes its home debut of the 2012 season Jan. 21 with a doubleheader against the DeKalb Silver Streaks (11 a.m.) and the West Georgia Wolverines (1 p.m.). All of the team's home games are played at The Monarch School in Duluth.
The Heat's last home game is Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. against the Atlanta Wolfpack, which precedes the Feb. 11 regular-season finale at 1 p.m. against the DeKalb Silver Streaks at Henderson Middle School. The teams then begin the state playoffs March 3 with the ultimate goal of reaching the March 9 state finals at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
The Heat's coaches are Michaela Istone (head coach), Len Boudreaux and Lynette Swanson. The GCPS area coordinator for the program is former Grayson athletic director Mike Phillips.
