ATLANTA (AP) — A private funeral service is planned Wednesday for Atlanta Braves trainer Jeff Porter's wife, Kathy, who died in a collision between a Georgia State Patrol cruiser and the family's SUV.
WSB-TV reports that a private visitation is also planned for Tuesday for Porter's family and friends.
Authorities say Porter, his wife and son and a friend were on their way to the Chick-fil-A Bowl Saturday afternoon when the cruiser struck a Ford Expedition driven by Jeff Porter at Memorial Drive and Capitol Avenue.
Wright said the trooper was on his way to assist another trooper who was attempting to stop a motorcyclist on nearby Interstate 20.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta or First Baptist Church of Loganville.
