Barbara Hope Reid Davidson, age 78, a 39 year resident of Winder, GA formerly of Murphy, NC died of a sudden heart attack on Sunday, February 26, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruby Solesbee Reid; loving husband of 54 years, Harold H. “Hal” Davidson in 2006; and daughter, Starr Davidson. She is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law, Michael & Robin Davidson of Bethlehem, GA and Mark & Scarlett Davidson of Cocoa, FL; grandchildren, Michelle Davidson Walters (Craig), Madeline Davidson, Sawyer Davidson, Joey Rauch, Shane & Elisha Geiger, Mark & DeLana Price; great grandchildren, Paislee, Scott, Shana, Drake and Jaxon; sister, Mrs. Jean Fallon; nieces & their families, Jean & Jim Johnson, Emily, Caroline, and Riley; Cappie & John Ortman, Fallon, Reid and Catherine. Beloved pets, Gracie and Shadow; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Davidson was born in Franklin, NC on August 25, 1933 and she grew up in Murphy, NC, where she graduated from Murphy High School. Barbara once auditioned as a singer for the Ted Mack Amateur Hour in New York. She attended the University of Georgia and worked at Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta, GA, where she was a member of the Marietta Cotillion Club. Mrs. Davidson was active in the Marietta community and the First Baptist Church Choir. She and her high school sweetheart, Hal Davidson, were married in 1952 while Hal played football at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1950-54. She lived a very exciting life traveling overseas with her husband’s government career first with the United States Army and a second time with United States Army Air Corp. with assignments in Germany, France and Turkey. Barbara and Hal finally settled in Winder, GA in 1972, where they owned and operated the Ace Hardware in the Holly Hill Mall. She then worked for Akins Ford as the first female service writer in the state of Georgia. Barbara was active in the Winder community and was an avid bridge player and a golfer. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and especially her grandchildren. She lived life to the fullest and up to her final day, she was always ready for whatever came her way. She was always full of hope, encouragement, love, happiness, and truly was a blessing to all. Barbara was a devoted wife and a proud and loving mother to her two sons. This sweet, gracious southern lady will be missed by all. A Memorial Service Celebrating the Life of Barbara R. Davidson will be held Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Winder First United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry L. Tippen officiating. Interment will follow at Ranger United Methodist Church Cemetery, Murphy, NC. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:00 o’clock until 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Winder First United Methodist Church, 280 North Broad St., Winder, GA 30680 in memory of Barbara R. Davidson.
