Berkmar basketball dominates all-region hoops

Berkmar's boys basketball program took the top two individual honors on the All-Region 8-AAAAA Team, released Monday by the league's coaches.

Patriot guard Yonel Brown was named 8-AAAAA's player of the year for the second straight season and Greg Phillips was selected coach of the year after leading Berkmar to the 8-AAAAA Tournament championship. The Patriots also had Adonai Rogers on the all-region first team.

Joining Brown and Rogers on the first team were Shiloh's Robert Carter and Jordan Gaither and Dacula's Anthony Morse.

Berkmar's Brandon Thompson made the second team along with Parkview's Andre Chatfield, Brookwood's Malcolm Hannah, Archer's Randall Smith and South Gwinnett's Simeon Dennis.

The honorable mention list featured Xavier Okoro (Dacula), Darius Joell (Central Gwinnett), Trayvon Reed (Shiloh), Bryan Hamlet (Archer) and Logan Adams (South).
