The second of three winter gallery shows at the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center (GPAC) in Auburn, was a wonderful success (Jan. 18/19). Twenty-two artists submitted 42 works of art for the exhibition. Guest Judge, award-winning artist, Margaret Agner, of Bogart, made her selections on Friday and awards were revealed at the show opening on Saturday. Best of Show honors went to Diane Johnson of Hoschton for her Acrylic titled "Sunrise".
AUBURN -- The second of three winter gallery shows at the Georgia Piedmont Arts Center in Auburn was a "wonderful success," in the words of president Kathleen Gill.
The exhibition saw 22 artists submit 42 works. Guest judge, award-winning artist Margaret Agner of Bogart made her selections the day prior to the event, Gill said.
Best of Show honors went to Diane Johnson of Hoschton for her acrylic titled "Sunrise."
Two-dimensional awards went to Diana Romney (first place) and Ginger Goekjian (second place).
Three-dimensional awards went to Sheila Hughey of Commerce, (first place) and Billy Shallenberger of Jefferson (second place). Honorable mention awards were received by John Saude, Pat Schumacher and Holly Schumacher all of Lawrenceville, and Bill Cooper, of Hoschton.
Relocated from Winder, the not-for-profit center occupies a historic house in downtown Auburn. Its mission is to "cultivate, facilitate and promote a community in which all art forms can thrive cooperatively," according to the center's website.
The next gallery show at GPAC will be March 17 and 18, called "Creative Creatures."
