SUWANEE -- The events from the city of Suwanee were recently honored by the Southeast Festivals and Events Association.
The city earned a pair of "Kaleidoscope Awards" from the organization at its annual conference this week -- a gold in the "Best New Event" category for it's 9/11 commemorative event and "Remembrance" unveiling, and a silver in the "Best Event within an Event" category for the flash mob performance at the 2011 Suwanee Day Festival.
The 9/11 event included the unveiling of a 1,638-pound steel artifact from the World Trade Center. Suwanee was on of 24 communities in Georgia to receive artifacts from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The Suwanee Day flash mob was organized by the Royal Dance Academy and included about 800 people in an energetic rain-themed dance performance.
The Southeast Festivals and Events Association "represents a group of professionals who believe that events and festivals have the power to invigorate communities and make them better places to live."
